Please take a look at what is happening at EVRC and Area 4 over the coming months. The person organising the event is initialled for your information and booking should be through them. Our training is primarily organised by Rachael Smith but Zoe Nundy has liaised with Russ Underwood and is offering some sessions at “Underwood’s Events “. Please be aware of the booking and payment instructions which will usually be advertised on our FB page and the EVRC website.
Sheila Kuehnle is organising helpers for the variety of events being planned at the club field and at Area 4 qualifiers and as it is a requirement, as an EVRC member, to offer to help please contact her with dates that you can offer your services please.
Sheila is also running the clear round jumping at the club field and this will be aimed at riders and horses that need experience and confidence. Details will be advertised shortly.
The Pleasure ride will start at the club field and Tania O’Connell will be helping with the organisation before and on the day. The plan is to enjoy a sociable ride and then enjoy a picnic at the end to reflect on our adventures….
Our Club Team Dressage Competition on the 27th June is aimed at riders who have never competed at a BRC Area Qualifier, to give them the experience of riding as part of a team for their club against other local riding clubs. Hopefully it will inspire riders to volunteer to represent their clubs in future Area 4 qualifiers.
In September we can look forward to the EVRC Showing Show which is always very popular and draws many different age groups and differing types of horses and ponies.
We are looking forward to a busy and successful summer at the club and can’t wait to welcome you all.
I hope you are all keeping well and looking forward to a little more freedom when we hit the 29thMarch, step two of Boris’ road map to freedom. This lockdown has certainly been a challenge for me personally; quite different from the first one when the weather was good and everyone was so optimistic that once we were allowed our freedom again all would be well….
Winter months are a challenge anyway for us horsey folk but add in a National lockdown with nothing to look forward to as regards competitions, pleasure rides, hacking or meeting up with friends and family and life can seem pretty depressing.
What have the EVRC Committee been up to…..
The committee have been on a steep learning curve during this time. We have had to transfer all our planning and communication online. We have been mindful that as members, especially active riding members, you deserved some form of interaction and activities to keep you focused and give you goals to aim for.
Our You Tube platform has provided a couple of activities, one riding and the other a non riding fitness programme organised by “Fight Fit” who are based in Wheldrake.
Our riding session was one using poles. It was led by Adele and she explained how one exercise could be used by different horses to meet their level of experience. In our case a youngster, a more physically mature horse and finally a horse who was well established with regards to the “Levels of training”
If you haven’t already please take a look at our You Tube page and by all means have a go if you have access to a number of poles and either an arena or a flat piece of field.
EVRC Virtual Dressage competition
The club organised a virtual dressage competition for members and non members in February. We had a fabulous response with over twenty entries. We tried to cater for everyone from first timers to the more experienced combinations and judging by the lovely comments and feedback everyone enjoyed it!

We know at EVRC that we have a lot of talented seniors and juniors within our membership and I’d like to feature individuals in the newsletter if possible. All you need to do is send in a report, ideally with a photo, telling us about an activity or feature you think would be of interest. Please send it to firstname.lastname@example.org . It could be about a competition you’ve attended, a golden oldie you own or look after, it could be about a new four legged addition to your family.
A belated “Happy New Year” to you all. I do hope you are keeping well and that you are managing as best you can in this present lockdown….
I am finding this third lockdown much tougher than the previous two and I think the time of year has a lot to do with it. It is taxing enough caring for our ponies in winter but add to the mix Covid and hurricane Christophe and it makes everything doubly hard. My paddocks resemble lakes at the moment and the horses come in covered in mud, it seems relentless…..However let’s try and be positive and look forward to spring and being able to go out with our family and friends once more.

What’s coming up for members in lockdown
The committee have not been idle since Christmas! We have been trying to think of ways to engage you all as best we can.
Becky Whitely our IT guru, has set up an EVRC You Tube account and we are in the process of recording short sessions for you all to look at and hopefully be able to take some inspiration from. This week was a session using poles, emphasising straightness.
We have plans to include sessions for those of you that cannot ride at the moment on subjects like rider fitness, talks from feed companies, dentists, physiotherapists and Vets. If you have any particular requests please get in touch with your suggestions and if you know any experts who would be interested in giving up some time to become a You Tube star please let us know.
Online Dressage Competition
Following on from our very successful first Lockdown dressage Competition we have a second planned, using BRC dressage tests. The closing date for getting your test/s to me is 15th Feb. Hopefully arenas will have dried out and be defrosted to allow you to ride and have your test videoed!
All the details of how to enter and what to do are on the EVRC FB page and on the website. If you have any questions at all please give me a ring on 07917431087.
Area 4 Competitions Update
Covid 19 and the “Lockdown” have had a massive impact
On the Area 4 Qualifiers and BRC Championships for 2021.
At the moment the Novice Dressage Qualifier and Championship is going to be run as a virtual competition. The details will follow when we receive them from Area 4.
Unfortunately the Combined Training Championship has been cancelled therefore there will be no Qualifier for this event.
The Arena eventing has been rescheduled and will be run at Richmond EC on the 24th and 25th April if restrictions allow.
The HT will now be on the 18th July at Helen Bells.
The Summer Show has been moved to the 14th and 15th August and will be at Richmond EC.
DTM does not have a date but the venue will be at Manor Grange.
Let us all hope that things improve and that we can get back to what we love doing with our ponies but until then… “Stay safe”
Present – Rachel Mathews, Samantha Askew, Lucy Jordan, Vicky Pears, Christine Shepherd, Philip Lewis-Ogden, Sheila and Jenni Kuehnle, Fran Ackerley, Jackie Snow, Margaret, Dawn, Gilly B, Rachael Smith, Lisa
Minutes of previous AGM – agreed as correct.
Matters arising – nil
Chairman’s address – Jackie thanked everyone for their attendance and the committee for their had work and commitment over the last 12 months. With great sadness Rachel Mathews will be stepping down from her role as Club Secretary. She was thanked for all her hard work over the last 4 years and on behalf of the committee Jackie wished her all the best for the future. Lucy Jordan was welcomed to the committee – nominated by Jackie and seconded by multiple committee members. Jackie recapped the year which started well with training but early set-back of the senior show-jumping qualifier having to be re-arranged due to Storm Dennis. This meant EVRC members had to ‘step up’ to provide help at a not so local venue – this they did and the committee would like to thank all that volunteered. The junior team were able to travel down for the arena eventing championship acquiring a team placing of 9th despite being a team member down. The week after the club and country went into lockdown. In an attempt to keep members engaged EVRC launched there first virtual dressage, with success. Another was planned, but unfortunately BD put a stop to this. We also had our showing show – placing responsibility on our chair to judge the many entries. With lockdown easing we re-started training in June in the new ‘COVID safe’ style. We hoped we would be able to move onwards and upwards to team qualifiers. Unfortunately at the 12th hour these were cancelled and the second lockdown commenced, leaving the club back as we were in Spring.Treaurer’s report – this will be forwarded to those that are interested. Total income £7584.19, expenditure £6012.33 = profit £1571.86. Nat west account £4974.46 Lloyds account £3595.48 (£8569.96 total) – these have now been merged to the Nat. West Account only. Training income has reversed the previous downward trend in club finances.
Membership – membership numbers = 84. This is similar to previous years, although concerns were raised that the cancellation of qualifiers by BRC May adversely affect this next year. It was agreed to maintain the current membership fee of £30, despite the membership of BRC increasing.
7. Team report
Teams have been affected, like every aspect of our lives this year. The club were so organised, ready and prepared for the Area 4 Qualifiers. Training was organised to select club teams, Zoe did a brilliant job booking venues and coaches for jump training starting straight after Christmas at Willitoft and later at Bishop Burton. We entered seniors and juniors teams in 70, 80, 90 and 100 classes. Unfortunately the weekend coincided with Hurricane Denis and the forecast was for severe gales on the Sunday. Saturday was the day the juniors competed along with riders in the 100 and 110cm mixed classes.
Sunday’s jumping had to be postponed and was rescheduled unfortunately, with a change of venue and format. Competitors travelled to Moorhouse to compete, which was a challenge not only to park but to navigate around an incredibly small indoor space!!

Had the Championships run both Junior and Senior Combined Traing Teams would have gone to Aston Le Walls and Natasha Fieldsend and Vicky Pears would have competed at Lincoln.
Fortunately the Junior Arena Eventing team consisting of Millie Harris, Millie Hunter Boldan and Keeley Nundy managed to attend the Championships at Aston Le Walls and managed to achieve a team 9th place. An excellent result considering they were a team of 3!!
It was August before Area Qualifiers were back up and running, although in a limited Covid safe way and as a result the DTM only ran individual Music classes.
Jan Young (6th)
That concluded the BRC Area and Championship competitions for 2020 as the Winter Novice and Intermediate dressage and Arena Eventing qualifiers had to be postponed due to Covid 19
Training – the club has been able to offer a lot of training this year. This has yet again proved to be very popular with the members. We have used a number of different trainers. The team training has also been very well attended. Flatwork and pole work clinics have worked well, but jumping is a little more tricky to accommodate preferred times/heights/friendship groups but is a work in progress. We are optimistic we will be able to resume training after the lockdown ends. Currently the next scheduled training is Tuesday 15th December, but we will wait to ensure restrictions are lifted before opening this for booking.
AOB – The committee was formally reconvened. Sheila was also welcomed to the committee. The committee took the opportunity to thank Jackie for her work as chairperson.
