Summer News

I can’t believe the children are back at school and the summer is just about over. However when I look at my ponies’ coats and see how thick and hairy they all are I know the short days and colder weather is on its way.

So much has happened over the last couple of months and so many of you have been out and about with your ponies having fun. The club has had great success at the Northern Championships and a couple of our juniors have had their first taste of Championship competition at Lincoln.

Thursday 25th July our training session at Port Royal was enjoyed by all even though we had a couple of unscheduled dismounts. Fortunately, no one was injured and everyone had a smile on their face by the end of the evening. Our thanks go to Adele who was our trainer.

Flying HighSarah and the fabulous Worzel showing us all how it’s done.

Tuesday 30th July Our lovely trainer from France came back to Thornton House Farm. Everyone is so glad to see Helen Coxall on her return visits to England and always enjoy her no nonsense direct approach.

Wednesday 31st July we were back at the club field for a flat work session with Lucy Jordan.

Friday 2nd August   Our senior HT team Becky Whiteley, Amy Harris, Rachael Smith and yours truly were at Swalcliffe EC competing in the BRC National Championships. A fantastic venue and an unbelievable xc course which was full up and challenging. The team were placed 10th out over 30 teams competing. I finished 9th and Rachael 13th  in her arena. Amy finished on a double clear but with time penalties and Becky had a fabulous experience coming back to eventing after quite a break.

NORTHERN CHAMPIONSHIPS AT BISHOP BURTON

The Senior Novice team finished 3rd

A number of EVRC competitors represented the club in the senior dressage on a very hot day at Bishop along with one junior.

Rachael Smith came first in her arena
Lucy Jordan finished 2nd in her arena

Millie Bolden, our only junior put in a lovely performance to finish in the ribbons too.

National Championships at Lincoln

Amazingly two of the youngest competitors qualified for the National Championships at Lincoln.

Natasha Fielding rode Sunny in the junior riding test and although she didn’t finish in the placings she gained invaluable experience competing for her club.

Millie Hunter Bolden joined another three juniors from Area 4 to make a team and the team came third. A fabulous achievement for Millie in her first season with Ebor Vale.

The eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed that I’ve been somewhat late with my news update and for that I apologise. The summer is always hectic for everyone and that includes me. I’ve been to BRC Championships, helped at pony club camp, been away with my pony Wispa to Sommerford and been on a holiday to relax and do nothing. I promise to be more diligent in the future.

Hope to see you soon

Jackie.

April News

APRIL NEWS
I hope you are all looking forward to Easter and being able to get out and about with your four legged friends. As I write this newsletter it is raining but we have had a long period without the wet stuff so we can’t complain.
Sunday 31st March the Junior Novice Dressage Nationals. Leah Stott, Eleanor Messer and Millie Harris represented the club at the National Championships at Arena Uk. The girls did a fabulous job and produced some lovely tests but sadly just missed out in the placings. Eleanor Riding at Arena UK
2nd April Tuesday was our first informal social held at Mr Chus, in Hayton . Members, committee and non members came together to have a drink, meet face to face and offer suggestions regarding inter club competitions and different fun activities. Some of the ideas were brilliant and the committee will be working hard to make some of them happen. It was a well supported get together and I hope we can repeat it on a regular basis.
Training at THF with Adele on the 4th April was well attended and it was lovely to see new faces taking advantage of the fabulous facilities. There were lots of positive comments from those taking part which makes it all worthwhile.

The next training is on Tuesday 16th April which will be flat work. Text Rachael to book a space or message on the FB post.

March News

Hello Members,
There have been a few changes within the club recently; the main one being the formation of a new committee, so let me start by introducing you to the members and their responsibilities.
• Chair Jacki Snow
• Secretary Rachel Matthews
• Treasurer Margaret Hope/Christine Shepherd
• Membership Dawn Young
• Team Manager Zoe Nundy
• Website/Area 4 Lisa Fieldsend
• Training Rachael Smith
• Show Secretary Fran Ackerley
• Social Events Sam Dexter
• Safeguarding Officer Philip Lewis Ogden
Committee members Jeanne Wilson, Chris Frear
We could still do with a couple of more people to help on the committee. To help with coordinating volunteers, helping organise shows with Fran or helping Sam organise social events.
Standing down from the committee are Emma Darley and David Fielding. Emma has been involved with the club and on the committee for many years and for the last few years has taken on many responsibilities from field maintenance to team manager, working tirelessly for the club and its members. We thank her for all her efforts over the years. David Fielding has been our Chairman for the last few years and we thank him for his calm and patient guidance. The new committee are keen to keep members informed of what is happening and what we have planned for the club. First and foremost we are determined to prioritise communication between ourselves, the committee, and all the members. We want to hear what you have to say and what you would like the club to deliver on your behalf.
Most of the communication is done via our Face book page but we are in the process of devising a monthly news letter that will be sent to members to let them know what has been happening and what we have planned. Text messaging is something we are looking at too and we are keen to be able to sent single text messages to multiple contacts so if anyone could help with that please let us know.
Zoe has been very busy organising both Junior and Senior teams. In February EVRC sent two teams to the Novice indoor show jumping at Bishop Burton College. The 80 cm team consisting of Jackie Snow, Rachael Smith, Paige Atkin and Marie Spillane finished 6th and the 90cm team consisting of Amy Harris, Brogan Hodgson, Vicky Pears and Adele Barlow finished 2nd.
The club had to provide volunteers for the day and we sincerely thank all those who gave their time in order to let others compete, Tania O’Connell, Rachel Matthews, Jeanne Wilson, Dawn Young, Fiona Wainwright, Amy Harris, Margaret Hope, Marie Spillane.
Next was the Show Cross at Epworth and again two teams competed, Marie Spillane, Paige Atkin and Becky Whiteley in the 80cm and Amy Harris, Brogan Hodgson and Vicky Pears in the 90cm. Unfortunately the teams were unplaced. Olivia Rogers, riding her lovely new horse for the juniors, had a fabulous xc round but unfortunately had a couple of poles down in the sj. Again a massive thank you to Margaret Hope and Zoe Nundy for fence judging.
Coming up Rachael Smith is organising training at Thornton House Farm.
Thursday 4th April Jumping with Adele Mason 4pm – 7pm
Thursday 18th April Flatwork with Jack Wainwright 5pm – 8pm.
There are still spaces so please text Rachael 07979884101 or message on Fb.

Finally we are having a social get together at Mr Chu’s on Tuesday 2nd April at 7.30 to meet with members and non members. A chance to meet and chat and let us know what you want from Ebor Vale Riding Club.

Hope to see you very soon
Jackie

EBOR VALE RIDING CLUB NEW COMMITTEE

EBOR VALE RIDING CLUB NEW COMMITTEE

Dear members,

As many of you may know a meeting was held on Thursday 7th March to discuss the future of EVRC. It was attended by a group who feel loyal and passionate about the club, many have been members for a long time. The group decided to form a new committee and the elected officers are as follows

  • Chair             Jackie Snow
  • Treasurer             Christine Shepherd and Margaret Hope
  • Membership      Dawn Young
  • Secretary             Rachel Matthews
  • Training Rachael Smith
  • Teams Zoe Nundy
  • Show secretary Fran Ackerley
  • Social events Sam Askew/ David Fielding
  • Safeguarding Officer Philip Lewis-Ogden
  • Website/ Area 4 liaison Lisa Fieldsend
  • Committee members Jeanne Wilson/ Chris Freear

Now we need to keep this momentum going and that involves every single riding club member. We want to deliver a variety of activities that will appeal and include everyone. In order to deliver these activities we need to know firstly what you want and then with members support and help we will endeavour to organise them.

I am keen to see more social events being organised so that we can come together informally and get to know one another. If you have any ideas or thoughts on trainers, demonstrations, different equestrian activities or even trips away please drop us a text or email and let us know.

I am excited about the positively that was generated from the newly elected committee, now we need you as members to support your club and make it the success I know it can be.
